You can create your own smoothie originals by starting with the basics; 1 cup of milk (regular, soy, almond, rice or non-fat dry milk powder), 1 cup of yogurt or silken tofu. To this, add any combination of fresh or frozen fruits and/or vegetables (usually stick with fruits only or vegetables only - vegetables are best when fresh) and fresh juices. You can also add scoops of your favorite protein powder, weight loss/gain powder, wheat germ, brewer's yeast, ground flaxseed or supplement powders. Some smoothies may need a sweetener like honey, raw sugar, maple syrup or fruit spread. A blender will give you a smoother consistency than a food processor. Smoothies travel well and make an excellent take-along drink.
