And now, thankfully, it seems the worst thing our kids have to suffer with is a broken video game unit. However, the viruses that caused these childhood ailments are still around today so it's not uncommon to see a child with chicken pox, but less likely that you'll see one with measles or mumps. As all three are contagious, it's best to keep your child at home, quiet and resting, until they've recovered. Having said that, some symptoms aren't obvious while a child is in the highly contagious phase so it's hard to know when to begin a period of quarantine. In this article, we'll cover the major symptoms to watch for. If you see them and suspect your child has chicken pox, mumps or measles, it might be prudent to keep them away from friends and siblings until the presence of an illness is either confirmed or rejected.

CHICKEN POX

Typically, a child will experience chicken pox before the age of 12. A child is highly contagious in the two days prior to the appearance of the spots, and less contagious from the time they appear until they have crusted over. If another individual is exposed to someone with chickenpox during this time frame, it's likely that the individual will come down with chickenpox within two weeks.

Again highly contagious, spread through infected water droplets expelled by sneezing or coughing, measles are also caused by a virus which attacks the respiratory system, resulting in a full-body rash, fever, cough and runny nose. Because most children are vaccinated with the MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccine, a case of measles is now rarely seen in North America.

MUMPS

Echinamide Anti-Viral Potent Fresh Herbal Tincture harnesses the power of nature to help you fight viruses.
